Defensive help has arrived, as the New England Revolution have signed Michael Mancienne on a free transfer
Mancienne, 30, most recently played for Nottingham Forest of the Championship. He collected 135 appearances across all competitions during his four seasons with the Foresters. Mancienne also spent time with Hamburger SV, Chelsea, Wolverhampton, and Queens Park Rangers.
“Michael’s a defender who has played at the highest levels in both England and Germany throughout his career,” general manager Michael Burns said in a press release. “We believe his experience will help him make immediate contributions to the club and allow him to become a leader on and off the field.”
Mancienne is capable of playing anywhere along the back line, though most of his minutes have been logged as a center back. He can also line up as a defensive midfielder.
Mancienne will be added to the roster using Targeted Allocation Money and will eligible to play once he receives his P-1 Visa and international transfer certificate (ITC). He will occupy the Revolution’s final international slot.
