Former PC striker Steeves signs with Houston

Needham native impressed Dynamo with his scoring ability

Mac Steeves, the 23-year-old Providence College product, has signed with the Houston Dynamo just ahead of this weekend’s open of the 2018 Major League Soccer schedule.

Steeves was in camp with the Dynamo after being selected 43rd in the MLS Super Draft, but just signed with the club, according to a Dynamo announcement.

He played in five preseason games and scored three goals.

Scoring is what the 6’4” Needham native does best. He wracked up 35 goals in his college career.

“Mac works hard, he scores goals and he has different characteristics than our other forwards,” Dynamo coach Wilmer Cabrera said in announcing the signing.

Steeves may have guaranteed himself a spot on the team when he scored the final two goals in a 5-0 preseason victory of New York Red Bulls.

After the game, Cabrera went out of his way to praise the forward’s abilities close to goal.

Cabrera also announced the signing of goalkeeper Michael Nelson, the 20th pick out of SMU.

“We feel that they are good enough to make the team and to bring something positive throughout the season,” he said.
