Gabriel Somi has only been a member of the New England Revolution for two days but he’s already saying the things that fans want to hear.

Somi was acquired by the Revolution on Jan. 4 via a free transfer. The 26-year-old was previously with Östersunds FK of Sweden.

Soon after the news became official, Somi took to social media to express his excitement about the challenge ahead.

Although it’s been noted that Somi can play multiple position, he will likely compete with Chris Tierney for the left back spot. Tierney has been a regular on the left side for some time, though nagging injuries forced Kelyn Rowe to play there last year.

Somi is the first international acquisition for Brad Friedel, who penned Isaac Angking as a Homegrown Player on Tuesday. It’s a positive sign that Somi is so excited to come to the United States to play in MLS.
