With the 9th overall pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, the Revolution selected Wisconsin forward Mark Segbers. One pick earlier, the team bolstered its back line by drafting Western Michigan defender Brandon Bye.
In four seasons with the Badgers, Segbers scored 16 goals and contributed 22 assists. He developed a reputation as an athletic and technically-gifted player capable of featuring as both a forward and fullback. Segbers could play in either spot for Head Coach Brad Friedel, who desperately needs depth pieces ahead of his first full season in Foxboro.
Before attending Wisconsin, Segbers—a St. Louis native—trained with the U-18 U.S. Men’s National Team. The 21-year-old forward played club soccer for St. Louis Scott Gallagher.
The Revolution will announce its third and final pick in the 4th round (78th overall), which will take place on Sunday, Jan. 21.
