Boston Breakers sign BC alum Hayley Dowd

The NWSL roster freeze took effect yesterday on August 29, and several teams are now announcing the results of their moves. The Boston Breakers made an adjustment to their roster, which has been hit fairly hard by injury over the course of the season, with the signing of Boston College alum Hayley Dowd.

The Breakers picked Dowd #38 overall in the 2017 NWSL college draft, but did not immediately sign her in a roster crowded with forwards. But with several players injured or leaving - Emilie Haavi has returned to Norway and Amanda Da Costa has retired - there is now room on the roster and a need to add some depth to the attack. Dowd has been playing with the Breakers Reserves in WPSL this season, where she has scored 13 goals.

We’ll see if Dowd can be the edge that Boston’s forwards need, especially combined with the potential return of Rose Lavelle, who was finally upgraded on the injury list last game against Sky Blue FC, but did not play.

The Breakers are currently 9th in the league standings and have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with four games left in the season. They’ll next face the Orlando Pride away on Saturday, September 2, at 7:30 PM ET. The game will stream life on go90 and NWSLSoccer.com.
