The New England Revolution will face D.C. United tonight in a Round of 16 U.S. Open Cup match. ESPN commentator Herculez Gomez not only expects the Revs to win that game, but also advance to the semifinals.
Gomez, who posted his Open Cup bracket on Tuesday, has the Revs beating D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls before falling to Atlanta United. The former US National Team striker goes on to predict that the Seattle Sounders will capture their fifth Open Cup trophy.
The Revs made it to the tournament final last year, ultimately losing 4-2 to F.C. Dallas. This year the Revs face a tall task as they’re dealing with injuries and international call-ups.
One thing that’s in their favor is that they will host the Round of 16 match and if they advance the quarterfinal. There’s no question that American soccer favors the home team.
So, how far do you think the Revs will make it in this year’s Open Cup tournament? Let us know in the comments section below.
