Norwegian international Emilie Haavi has been called up for Norway’s upcoming friendly against the United States. That means she could face fellow Boston Breakers Rose Lavelle and Abby Smith on the field on June 11, when the USWNT takes on Norway in Sandefjord.
Haavi hasn’t seen much playing time with Breakers this season; she suffered a broken jaw during training in early April and made her first start against Portland away last weekend, when the Breakers lost by two.
Haavi will be available for Boston when they play the Orlando Pride away on June 3. Then she, along with Lavelle and Smith, will head for Europe. Midge Purce will also be in Europe with the U23 WNT, who are playing their own Nordic tournament.
Meanwhile, Canadians Allysha Chapman and Adriana Leon have been called up for Canada for friendlies against Costa Rica.
All in all it’s a busy time in the upcoming FIFA window, which runs June 5 - 13. With the next scheduled Breakers game on June 17 (away at North Carolina Courage), there should be enough time for everyone to fly back, get some rest, and be ready to resume the NWSL calendar.
