One week before the 2017 Gold Cup kicks off, the United States will host Ghana during a friendly in East Hartford, Conn.
The match—slated to take place at Pratt & Whitney Stadium—pits two familiar nations against one another. The U.S. and Ghana have gone toe-to-toe in each of the past three World Cup competitions, with Ghana knocking the Yanks out of the tournament in 2006 and 2010. In 2014, the U.S. got revenge when John Brooks netted a late-game winner during the tournament’s opening match. Though this matchup won’t carry World Cup intensity, the U.S. will use the outing to build momentum ahead of the 14th rendition of the Gold Cup.
Bruce Arena’s side has had success playing in East Hartford over the years, earning a 3-1-1 record at Pratt & Whitney Stadium during World Cup Qualifying and Gold Cup play. The last time the U.S. kicked off in the venue, fans waived goodbye to all-time leading scorer Landon Donovan. The United States played Ecuador to a 1-1 draw.
The U.S. and Ghana kick of at 4:45 p.m. ET.
