The report, from ESPN FC’s Doug McIntyre, also says another match against Venezuela is in the works. The match against Venezuela will be played before the USMNT’s next World Cup qualifiers on June 3rd at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah the home of Real Salt Lake. The match against Ghana on July 1st will be a friendly ahead of the Gold Cup which begins for the US on July 8th.
The USA and Ghana have never played a friendly match but have met in the past three World Cups, with the Black Stars eliminating the US in group play in 2006 and in the Round of 16 in 2010. The USMNT did win a group play match in Brazil in 2014 and advanced with Germany out of their group before the US fell to Belgium in the first knockout round.
The most recent match the USMNT has played in the New England area was a 2015 Gold Cup group match against Haiti in 2015, a 1-0 win for the USA thanks to a Clint Dempsey goal. The last time the American’s visited Rentschler Field in Hartford was for Landon Donovan’s retirement match on October 10th, 2014, a 1-1 draw against Ecuador.
