The New England Revolution captured a road point on Sunday when they tied the Portland Timbers 1-1. Here’s what you need to know if you missed the match.
Moment of the Match
Diego Valeri’s strike was prettier, but this award needs to go to Lee Nguyen. The midfielder cleaned up loose ball to give the Revs their first-ever goal at Providence Park. This, of course, secured a crucial road point that could come in handy as we near the playoffs.
Quote of the Match
“Usually Je-Vaughn wins those [1-v-1 training drills]. But this past Monday, [Josh] and Je-Vaughn knocked around pretty good. I knew from that point on that I was really going to see if he could be in this environment (in Portland).”-Head coach Jay Heaps talking about why he started rookie Josh Smith.
Josh Smith might be a rookie but he certainly didn’t look like it on Sunday. The University of San Francisco product did enough in training to convince Heaps to bench Benjamin Angoua, who was a marquee signing from the off-season. This was a big decision, so it’s nice to get some insight behind the move.

Hey @JSB_TV did Caleb Porter really tell you to tell the Revs coaching staff he wasn't making a sub?

@JulianCardillo @TaylorTwellman @AdrianHealey yes, not something I would or could make up.

Caleb Porter kept his starting XI intact for the entire match. Did that cost his team three points? It’s certainly worth discussing.
