It didn’t take long for Major League Soccer to notice Antonio Delamea.
In just his fourth MLS start, the Slovenian center back earned a spot on mlssoccer.com’s Team of the Week beside Timbers defender Marco Farfan and Sounders defender Gustav Svensson.
In his week five start against the Timbers, Delemea stood tall against Fanendo Adi and a menacing Portland attack, collecting ten clearances, eight recoveries and two blocked shots. To sweeten the deal, Delamea looked in sync with rookie center back Josh Smith, even though the pair had never played together before Sunday’s match.
Delamea represents the sixth Revolution player to earn a Team of the Week nod in the past two weeks. And though Revs supporters don’t need an excuse to sing Delamea’s praises, the selection affirms a universal belief in Foxboro: Antonio Delamea is the real deal.
The Revolution hit the field next on Sunday afternoon against the Houston Dynamo.
