The United States and Honduras kick off the third match of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying tonight from Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California.
The USMNT (0-2-0, 0 pts) will play their first significant match under Bruce Arena’s second tenure with the team after replacing Jurgen Klinsmann who was fired after the two qualifying losses late last year.
It will be a tough road for the USA however, as they will be without striker Bobby Wood and fullbacks Fabian Johnson and DeAndre Yedlin due to injury. With several starters out and zero points so far in The Hex, tonight is a must win game at home for Arena and the USMNT.
Jorge Luis Pinto and Honduras however will not make it easy, as Los Catrachos sit with a 1-1-0 record and three points after the first set of qualifying matches. Tactically there’s a lot of ways Honduras can frustrate the USMNT but I recommend Neil Blackmon’s take on The Yanks Are Coming for full details.
We’ll have updated lineups and live commentary throughout the match for tonight’s very, very late World Cup qualifier.
