Libby Stout out four to six weeks with ankle sprain

Stout was injured just before preseason.

Boston Breakers unveil 2016 jersey

The Boston Breakers announced that goalkeeper Libby Stout suffered an ankle sprain and will be out for the next four to six weeks.

This obviously rules out Stout for the entirety of preseason and may even mean she’ll be absent for the beginning of the season, as the Breakers begin play on April 16 against FC Kansas City.

Boston has two GK options behind Stout: Abby Smith and Sammy Jo Prudhomme, who was drafted #31 overall at the 2017 college draft.

Abby Smith is coming back from an injury of her own, a torn patellar tendon that took her almost a year to rehab. “Abby is looking good,” said head coach Matt Beard. “She will be in full training and has worked very hard in the offseason to get fit.”

Though Prudhomme was listed on the Breakers’ preaseason roster, she has not yet officially been signed to a contract with the club.

The Breakers play their first preseason game on March 25 in a closed-door scrimmage against Boston College.

Fans who want to get their first look at the team probably have their best chance with the Breakers’ preseason game against UConn on Saturday, April 1 at Jordan Field.
