The Boston Breakers picked Rose Lavelle #1 at the 2017 NWSL draft and have now officially signed her to a contract with the team. As per league policy terms of the deal were not disclosed.

““Of course selecting Rose at No. 1, we always knew we were going to sign her,” said head coach Matt Beard via team press release.

Lavelle is currently with the US women’s national team as they prepare for the SheBelieves Cup and may get her first cap for the United States during the tournament. Lavelle has been in and around the WNT for several camps now, beginning in 2015 after the World Cup victory tour, and looks like she might be working her way into helping develop the midfield in preparation for 2019.

NWSL teams will be going into preseason shortly afterwards to prepare for opening weekend, beginning April 15. The Breakers’ first game of the season is away at FC Kansas City on Sunday, April 16, then open at home on Sunday, April 23 against Sky Blue FC. It seems a fair bet that Beard will try to integrate Lavelle right away and make her a centerpiece of the midfield as a box-to-box player.

In the meantime, SheBelieves kicks off on Wednesday, March 1. The United States will play Germany at 7 PM ET in Chester, PA. The game will air live on FS1.
