Twellman: Brad Friedel tops Revolution “wish list” for next coach

Could the former U.S. keeper land in Foxboro?

In its quest for a new head coach, the Revolution have kept quiet about potential suitors. Rumors have surfaced but few have picked up steam.

That is, until Taylor Twellman added his voice to the conversation.

On Monday afternoon, Twellman identified former Tottenham and U.S. National Team goalkeeper Brad Friedel as the Revs’ top choice to succeed Jay Heaps.

Now serving in his third year as the head coach of the U.S. U-19 team, Friedel has limited coaching experience, having only retired from Premier League side Tottenham following the 2014-2015 season.

But during his playing career, Friedel established himself as one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in U.S. history. The Ohio native played in three World Cups, earned 82 career caps and played 20 years of professional soccer in MLS and across Europe. He currently holds the Premier League record for most consecutive appearances (310).

Could that experience translate to success on the sideline? Apparently, the Revolution have already answered that question.
