The Revolution have a chance to repeat history.
Nine years ago, the club defeated FC Dallas, 3-2, in the U.S. Open Cup Final. Tonight, the two teams square off once again with the U.S. Open Cup on the line.
But unlike the 2007 final, the Revolution will head into tonight's match as the undisputed underdog. Oscar Pareja's side currently leads MLS with 51 points in 29 matches and has spent significant time atop mlssoccer.com's weekly power rankings. By all accounts, FC Dallas is the Supporter's Shield front runner.
The Revs, meanwhile, have stumbled through much of the 2016 season and do not currently occupy a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Yet over the past two weeks, the team has found success with an attacking trio of Kelyn Rowe (CAM), Lee Nguyen (FWD) and Juan Agudelo (FWD). With Kei Kamara back from international duty—though questionable with a hip strain—and Femi Hollinger-Janzen now healthy, Jay Heaps has no shortage of attacking options.
His club hopes to carry its momentum, and take home the U.S. Open Cup trophy, when it kicks off against FC Dallas tonight.
