It's official, the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final between the New England Revolution and FC Dallas will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 10 p.m. ET at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. The game will air on ESPN2 and Univision Deportes Network.
The Revolution advanced to the final by defeating the Carolina RailHawks, New York Cosmos, Philadelphia Union, and Chicago Fire. Dallas' path to the championship included victories over Oklahoma Energy FC, the Colorado Rapids, Houston Dynamo, and LA Galaxy.
This will be the second time that these two teams have met in the Open Cup Final. In 2007, the Revs recorded a 3-2 win over Dallas to collect their first major piece of silverware. The Revolution's goals came courtesy of Pat Noonan, Taylor Twellman, and Wells Thompson while Arturo Alvarez and Abe Thompson found the back of the net for Dallas.
There will be more than a trophy at stake for the Final, as the winning team will receive $250,000 and a spot the 2017-18 CONCACAF Champions' League. The runner-up will earn $60,000.
