On the heels of a disappointing 3-2 loss to the Montreal Impact, the Revolution host NYCFC tonight for the first game at Gillette Stadium since May 28.
The two clubs last met on March 26 in the Bronx, when the Revs grinded out a 1-1 draw despite losing Gershon Koffie to a 51st-minute red card. Chris Tierney scored the Revs only goal, while Tommy McNamara delivered a goal for the host side. Since then, NYCFC—winners of three straight—have risen to the top of the Eastern Conference.
The Revs, on the other hand, have turned in an inconsistent summer campaign, defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps on June 18 before dropping matches to D.C. United and Montreal, respectively. In the latter match, the Revs received two goals from Kei Kamara, who will look to stay hot against a New York City team that has conceded 31 goals, the most in MLS—tied only with the Revolution and Whitecaps.
With just eight points separating the eighth-place Revolution and first-place NYCFC, the Revs will look to get back into the fold by earning a full three points.
