Former New England Revolution defender A.J. Soares could be on the move this summer, according to Norwegian newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad.
Soares' 18-month contract with Viking FK, which he signed in February 2015, will soon expire. Reports out of Norway claim that the 27-year-old has no intention of re-signing, though the player has not to publicly announce his future plans.
Before heading to the Tippeligaen, Soares was with the Revolution from 2011-2014. In his final season, Soares won the Revs' "Players' Player" and Defender of the Year awards. He also helped his club reach the MLS Cup final.
When his contract expired, Soares went overseas and was reportedly on the verge of signing with Hellas Verona of Serie A. The deal never materialized, however, and Soares landed in Norway.
Given the unpredictable saga that emerged the last time that Soares was a free agent, it's difficult to predict where the California native will land next. Should he return to MLS, the Revs would be a possibility as the club reportedly hold his rights.
