It's bad news for the New England Revolution as their new Designated Player Xavier Kouassi is set to miss at least six months with a right knee injury, according to multiple Swiss reports.

Kouassi suffered the injury on Sunday during FC Sion's match against FC Zurich. The midfielder, who also serves as the captain, was carted off in the 57th minute. He's expected to miss the rest of the Swiss season.

Kouassi was announced as the Revolution's new Designated Player on Feb. 1. Head coach Jay Heaps, who traveled to Europe on several occasions to scout and speak to Kouassi, expressed excitement about the signing, saying, "We feel that he fits into what we're trying to do."

Although the Revs tried to bring Kouassi over sooner, it was ultimately decided that he would stay with Sion until July. If early assessments are correct, Kouassi wouldn't be available until at least August due to this injury.

The Bent Musket has reached out to the Revolution for confirmation and the team did confirm that Kouassi left Sion's game with an injury but they likely wouldn't have further updates tonight.
