McCarthy had spent the previous year with Finnish club Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) making ten appearances for the club who finished 9th in the twelve team Veikkausliiga.
McCarthy played 69 games for the Revolution scoring two goals in his career after being drafted in the second round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. A converted central/holding midfielder, McCarthy saw significant time at centerback in 2012 and was named the Revs Defender of the Year for that season.
However, McCarthy was mostly a reserve in his final season in New England, making only one appearance in 2014. He started and played 90 minutes in a 2-0 loss against FC Dallas on July 19th.
Still, McCarthy was a solid defender and a versatile player overall in his career and should be a good addition for San Antonio. We look forward to seeing Big Macca back in action stateside and wish him the best of luck in the USL next season.
