For the fourth season in a row, the Revolution will take on Real Salt Lake during the first round of the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup. The match marks the official start of the Revs' preseason campaign.
Jay Heaps & Co. will look to defeat Kyle Beckerman's side for the first time in Diamond Cup history, having amassed an 0-2-1 record over the past three seasons. This year, Heaps will have the luxury of deploying midfielder Gershon Koffie, who arrived at Revs camp on Sunday and immediately made his presence known. Fellow newcomer Sambinha, who also arrived on Sunday, has progressed "at the right speed," but is unlikely to feature in the match, per revolutionsoccer.net.
With eight trialists still in camp—including Ghanian left back David Addy and SuperDraft picks Michael Gamble and Femi Hollinger-Janzen—Heaps will use Wednesday's match, and the remaining matches on the preseason calendar, to assess the back end of his roster. Look for Gamble and Hollinger-Janzen to earn extended minutes after the departure of Sean Okoli, a move that left Heaps with just two rostered forwards. At least one of the two rookies is expected to earn a contract ahead of the 2016 season.
The Revolution will also face Sporting KC (Feb. 20, 9:30 p.m. ET) and the Houston Dynamo (Feb. 24, 7:30 p.m. ET) during the first round of competition.
Location: Kino Sports Complex, Tucson, Az.
