On Tuesday afternoon, Revolution gaffer Jay Heaps will head into the MLS Expansion Draft with 13 protected players on his roster. His list includes a mix of veteran talent, including Lee Nguyen and Kei Kamara, and players on the rise, including Cody Cropper and Xavier Kouassi.
Yet when the draft kicks off, one rising Revs’ star will be eligible for selection: former third-round SuperDraft pick Femi Hollinger-Janzen. The only member of the 2016 draft class still rostered by the Revolution, Femi offered an attacking spark off the bench during his rookie campaign, scoring two goals in 19 appearances.
Femi serves as the only attacking player on the Revs’ list of exposed players. He joins goalkeepers Brad Knighton and Bobby Shuttleworth, who will likely battle Cropper for starts next season, and former MLS Defender of the Year Jose Goncalves, who is out of contract on Dec. 31, 2016.
