10 Dates to Save Ahead of the 2016 Revolution Season

What's next for the Revs?

Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

After bowing out of the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs in the knockout round, the Revolution will look to extend its season in 2016. Here's an early look at what's to come:

1. January 7: Revolution 2016 schedule release. To kickstart the 2016 season, the Revolution will visit the Houston Dynamo (March 7) and Philadelphia Union (March 20), in addition to hosting D.C. United (March 12). The rest of the 2016 calendar will be released Jan. 7.

2. January 7-12: MLS College Combine. Jay Heaps and his staff will visit Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for a final college scouting trip ahead of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.

3. January 14: 2016 MLS SuperDraft from Baltimore, Md. One year ago, the Revolution hardly made a splash during the draft, making just one selection: forward Mark Fenelus in the 3rd round. This time around, the club has three selections (10, 30 and 51 overall).

4. February 6: Preseason friendly against the Dynamo. Ahead of the 2016 Desert Diamond Cup, the Revolution will visit Tucson, Ariz. for a preseason showdown with Owen Coyle's club.

5. February 17-27: 2016 Desert Diamond Cup from Tucson, Ariz. The annual preseason tournament will kick off with the Revolution facing Real Salt Lake (Feb. 17), Sporting Kansas City (Feb. 20) and the Dynamo (Feb. 24).

6. March 6: 2016 Revolution season kicks off from Houston, Texas. The Revolution will square off with the Dynamo fresh off a pair of preseason tune-ups against the Western Conference club.

7. March 12: Revolution home opener against D.C. United. In week two, the Revolution will have an opportunity to avenge a 2-1 playoff loss at the hands of Chris Rolfe and a late D.C. United goal.

8. June 12: Gillette Stadium hosts Brazil for 2016 Copa America. The 100-year old tournament will grace Foxboro for a match between Brazil and a group-stage opponent. Gillette Stadium will later host a quarterfinal match.

9. Late July: 2016 MLS All-Star Game. Last season, Chris Tierney served as the lone representative from the Revolution, though he did not travel for the match. The Revolution will look to field a second consecutive MLS All-Star in 2016.

10. Early December: 2016 MLS Cup. Will the Revolution return to the final after taking the LA Galaxy to overtime in 2014?
