The New England Revolution are on the verge of clinching a playoff spot with approximately a month and a half left in the MLS season, according to Gothamist writer Dan Dickinson.
The Revs could earn a postseason ticket this week if a number of results go their way. First, the Revs must defeat either the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday or the Montreal Impact on Saturday. Next, New York City FC must either lose or tie vs. Toronto FC on Wednesday or the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. Finally, Orlando City SC need to lose or tie against the Chicago Fire on Saturday.
To put it simply, the Revs need to win while NYC FC and Orlando must either tie or lose.
Obviously a lot has to go the Revs' way in order for them to ensure they play past Oct. 25. Still, the fact that the Revolution are so close to earning their third straight playoff berth is positive news for Jay Heaps' men. From here on out, each game will move them one step closer to capturing the elusive MLS Cup.
