As part of a mulit-year deal between Soccer United Marketing and Bayer HealthCare, Coppertone will be a new national sponsor of NWSL and U.S. Soccer.
"We are very excited to partner with Coppertone, whose leadership in the suncare industry and track record for high performance sunscreens is a natural fit with the NWSL," said NWSL Commissioner Jeff Plush.
What does this mean for the league? Coppertone ads at games, obviously. Coppertone also will have access to USSF's branding on their own packaging, so starting with the World Cup, you could start to see a familiar crest on that SPF 40.
This deal also theoretically means more money for NWSL, though the exact monetary details of the SUM/Bayer deal are hard to track down. NWSL had no comment at the time of publication. In 2014, NWSL had a leaguewide partnership with the Army National Guard. Coppertone joins the National Mango Board as a league sponsor for 2015.
