The New England Revolution will host the Charlotte Independence in the Fourth Round of the US Open Cup. The USL side advanced in the tournament after upsetting the Carolina RailHawks of NASL on Wednesday night by claiming a 1-0 road victory at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
The lone tally of the night came from Ryan Finley in the 81st minute. Finley and the Independence will now shift their focus to facing the Revolution on Jun. 17 at Soldiers Field Stadium on the grounds of Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
The match will feature some familiar faces as former Revolution players Bilal Duckett and Paolo DelPiccolo currently play for the Independence. Duckett donned Revolution colors once in 2013 before being released at the end of the season. DelPiccolo's time in New England was shorter as he was signed and waived before the start of 2014 season. Both players started for the Independence in Wednesday's Open Cup game.
The Revolution last won the US Open Cup in 2007, but the trophy has been elusive since.
