It appears as though the New England Revolution are interested in improving their defensive depth as defender Renato Silva has been training with the team this week.
The Brazilian has largely played in his native country, which includes time with Flamengo (2005-2006), Fluminense (2007), and Vasco da Gama (2011-2014). His most recent stint was with Santa Cruz, though he never saw the field because of an injury. Renato was released in Nov. 2014.
The 31-year-old would provide another option at center back. Currently Jose Goncalves and Andrew Farrell have established themselves as first choice. Darrius Barnes, who has been starting at right back, can play centrally as well. Newcomers London Woodberry and Jeremy Hall are also possibilities.
The Revs lost center backs A.J. Soares and Stephen McCarthy during the off season. Soares is now with Viking FK of Norway while McCarthy is employed by Kuopion Palloseura of Finland.
