The MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued an official warning to Charlie Davies for revealing an "unsanctioned undergarment" while celebrating his goal against the Philadelphia Union on Sunday.
The garment in question was a message meant for Davies' wife Nina, who was celebrating her birthday. After scoring against the Union in the 64th minute, the New Hampshire native lifted his jersey, showcasing an undershirt that read "HAPPY BIRTHDAY NINA!!"
Talking to media after the game, Davies was asked about whether he got permission to wear the shirt and he responded by saying, "I don’t think there’s any approval needed for that. " Davies went on to explain, "I did it because she’s someone extremely special and I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for her."
Davies will not face any further discipline for the incident, though he could be fined if a similar infraction is committed in the future.
This is the second week in a row that the New England Revolution has captured the attention of the Disciplinary Committee as the team was previously warned about mass confrontation.
