Freddy Adu became the latest American to join a Scandinavian club when he signed with Finnish side Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) on Saturday. Adu will be playing alongside former New England Revolution defender Stephen McCarthy, who joined the team after a successful trial.
KuPS will be Adu's 11th club in 11 years. The 25-year-old's first professional contract came at the age of 14 when he signed with DC United. His most recent club was FK Jagodina of Serbia, where he failed to make a league appearance. Adu has signed a one-year contract with KuPS.
McCarthy officially joined KuPS on Friday, Jan. 30, also signing a one-year contract. Though originally drafted by the Revs as a midfielder, McCarthy transitioned to the back line, which is where he continues to play. McCarthy has been partnering with Toni Markic and trialist Babacar Diallo in recent preseason friendlies.
KuPS open their 2015 regular season with a trip to Ilves on April 12.
