Should the United States defend its Gold Cup title, they will automatically represent CONCACAF at the 2017 Confederations Cup. If another country wins, the winner and the USA will have an aggregate playoff to determine the regions representative to the Confederations Cup. The US finished runner up to Brazil in the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa.
