Jermaine Jones will soon be under the knife as he will require surgery to address a sports hernia. The procedure is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on Tuesday, according to SoccerByIves.net.
The impending surgery was first revealed by the player himself as Jones posted a video on Instagram. A spokesperson from the New England Revolution has since confirmed the news. No timeline has been set, but Jones did write "a couple of weeks" in his Instagram post.
Jones, who will soon embark on his first full season as a member of the Revolution, was recently with the US Men’s National Team for a pair of friendlies, contributing 90 minutes against both Chile and Panama. The German-American collected his 50th cap on Sunday against Panama.
With his international duties fulfilled, Jones was expected to rejoin the Revolution as they prepare for the upcoming season. The Revs are scheduled to train in Foxboro this week before departing for Tucson, AZ to participate in the Desert Diamond Cup.
The Revolution open the 2015 season with a trip to the Seattle Sounders on March 8.
