In a preview of opening weekend, the New England Revolution will face the Seattle Sounders in the Desert Diamond Cup on Wednesday at 8 pm EST.
The Revs (one point) will be looking for their first win of the tournament after losing 1-0 to Real Salt Lake and tying the Colorado Rapids 1-1. The Sounders currently have three points as they beat hosts FC Tucson 6-0 before losing to Sporting KC 3-2.
While they will met in a regular season match eleven days later, don't expect either team to change their preseason approach. Revolution staff writer and online host Jeff Lemieux tweeted that he predicts head coach Jay Heaps will use different lineups for each half. Lemieux also quoted Heaps as saying "we’ll be much different teams on the field" by the time the season opener rolls around.
Regardless, this game has plenty of intrigue from the Revolution's perspective as Juan Agudelo continues to assimilate back into the team and the back line continues to develop chemistry. Fans should also keep a close eye on Sean Okoli, who will face his hometown team for the first time since being traded away during the MLS SuperDraft.
