Soares spent several days training with Stabaek, scoring a goal in a friendly against Strommen on Wednesday. Stabaek head coach Bob Bradley told the Bent Musket that Soares was only there to keep sharp as he would soon begin to trial with other clubs.
As Bradley forecasted, Soares is now set to join Viking in La Manga, Spain for their training camp. Club director Arne Larsen Økland claimed that Soares has been on his radar for some times, praising the 26-year-old as a smart defender who is good in the air.
Viking had a down year last season, finishing 10th in the Trippeligaen table. The team allowed 42 goals, a number unmatched in their previous ten years.
Despite the bad season, Soares may still be drawn to Viking because the preceding two seasons were positive as the team finished fifth both years. Viking is also one of the wealthier Norwegian clubs.
The Soares saga has certainly been an intriguing one as the center back was initially rumored to move to Hellas Verona of Serie A. After the deal hit a snag, Soares traveled to Noway, first training with Stabaek and now with Viking. It’s worth noting that the New England Revolution retain Soares’ MLS rights should he return stateside.
