Everyone has an opinion on Jermaine Jones' contract offer, including former New England Revolution coach Stevie Nicol.
On Friday, Jones used social media to voice his displeasure about the ongoing contract negotiations. According to the Designated Player, the Revs want to bring him back at a salary that's less than 20% of last year's number. The tweet, which hasn't been accompanied by any additional information, has become a talking point throughout the league.
Nicol, who now serves as an ESPN FC commentator, doesn't believe that Jones' online message will help negotiations. In fact, the Scotsman said it was "unprofessional" and that he "wouldn't be happy whatsoever" if something like this happened while he was the coach.
Nicol also stated that he doesn't think Jones will return to New England.
"To be honest, I don't see any way that Jermaine Jones goes back to the Revs." Nicol said. "You can't possibly get over such a huge drop in wages with a player, particularly such an outspoken player as well. He ain't taking that. That means he's not going to be in New England. This could get ugly."
