Boston Breakers sign UNC alum Brooke Elby

The Breakers have added another defender to the roster.

The Boston Breakers have signed defender Brooke Elby for the 2016 season. Elby was a defender at UNC and has seen some time with the Melbourne Victory in Australia's W-League.

Elby won a national championship with UNC in 2012 and declared for the 2015 NWSL draft, but was not selected after she suffered an ACL injury.

Breakers GM Lee Billiard called her "an excellent one-v-one defender." Elby will almost certainly end up on the wing, though Billiard mentioned strong right and left feet, which means she could be understudy for either Lauren Lazo or Mollie Pathman at this point.

Elby's one game with the Victory so far placed her at left fullback; unfortunately, Melbourne lost the game 2-1.

Between trades for midfielders Sinead Farrelly and McCall Zerboni and this new signing, the Breakers appear to have two roster spots to fill through the college draft, but much could change during the offseason.
