Boston Breakers forward and rookie standout Stephanie McCaffrey has been called in to USWNT camp ahead of their friendlies against Brazil on October 21 and 25. She and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher will join the team before they play Brazil in Seattle.
McCaffrey has been called in to the full senior team once before, when she was added to the training camp roster in January.
Jill Ellis has spoken several times about the need to refresh the national team roster with so many players retiring after the World Cup. With six games left to go on the World Cup Victory Tour and four of them crammed into the first half of December, she may very well make good on rotating in new and younger players if for no other reason than to avoid exhausting her core roster.
"We are looking forward to two competitive games against Brazil," said Ellis. "They are a highly motivated team and certainly they have some exciting and dangerous attacking players. These are the kinds of games where we get tested and it provides a chance to evaluate our player pool. The more matches we can play like this, the better."
McCaffrey has seen action with the U23s but any playing time during this Victory Tour would represent her first senior team cap.
