Two former New England Revolution forwards are now back in Europe as Saer Sene has signed with Championship side Blackpool and Geoffrey Castillion has landed with Universitatea Cluj of the Romanian first division.
Sene, who led the Revs with 11 goals in 2012, was traded to the New York Red Bulls on Aug. 12, 2014 after struggling to break into Jay Heaps' starting 11. He made five appearances with the Red Bulls, scoring no goals. At the end of the season, he was released, ending his three year stint in MLS with 17 goals in 64 regular season appearances.
Castillion signed with the Revolution on Aug. 25, 2014. The Ajax product made his MLS debut soon after, appearing as a late substitute against Sporting Kansas City on Sept. 3. This brief appearance would be his only one as Castillion was traded to the Colorado Rapids ahead of the Expansion Draft. The Rapids would promptly decline his option.
Sene, 28, and Castillion, 23, are still young enough to make an impact. Sene will hope to help Blackpool avoid relegation as the currently sit at the bottom of the Championship with 14 points. Castillion joins a team that is in a slightly better position as they are eleventh in an 18-team league.
