After darting into the middle of the park, Revolution midfielder Scott Caldwell played Nguyen just outside the box. The Revs' playmaker took a touch and "scooped" his shot past a sprawling Evan Bush, emphatically equalizing the match in the 69th minute.

In the waning moments of his club's eventual 3-1 victory, Nguyen stormed forward and caused a costly turnover. Forward Patrick Mullins, who immediately gained possession, played a bounding ball back to Nguyen, who smoked a perfectly-timed ball into the back of the net.
