Revolution vs. Real Salt Lake: Lineups and Live Game Thread

Rio Tinto Stadium has never been kind to the Revs. Will that change this Independence Day? Join us for the live game thread!

USA TODAY Sports

The Revolution are in Utah tonight taking on Real Salt Lake in the two teams' only meeting of the regular season. Both teams enter this match-up on similar runs of poor form. For the Revs, they've lost their last three. Salt Lake hasn't collected a full three points in five consecutive games, going 0-3-2 since their last win on May 17th.

RSL will get a boost to their confidence tonight with the returns of goalkeeper Nick Rimando and midfielder Kyle Beckerman to the starting lineup, fresh off their World Cup run with the United States National Team. They'll be accompanied in the Starting XI with the usual backline and midfield mainstays. But RSL is still feeling the effects of the injury bug to their forward corps. Tonight they'll turn to second-year man Devon Sandoval and the speedy Joao Plata to spearhead the claret and cobalt's potent attack.

The Revs will have to make do tonight without the services of holding midfielder Andy Dorman, who is suspended for this match due to yellow card accumulation. Instead of plugging in Scott Caldwell, however, Jay Heaps has opted to switch his lineup around and go for something a bit different. Tonight center back A.J. Soares will shift up field to sit in front of the defense as the defensive midfielder, a switch that moves Andrew Farrell into central defense and makes way for Darrius Barnes at right back. Another switch is the replacement of Teal Bunbury with Kelyn Rowe on the right wing. And finally, Bobby Shuttleworth makes his return to goalkeeping duties.

Will Heaps' starting XI shake-up be enough to pull the Revs out of their recent funk? Time to find out! Below are tonight's starting lineups and of course in the comments section will be our live game chat. Go Revs!
