Diego Fagundez continued his good run of form with the Uruguay U-20s by scoring in a friendly against club team Canelones on Saturday.
The U-20s played two 60-minute scrimmages against Canelones with Fagundez featuring in the second. The New England Revolution midfielder got his name on the scoresheet in the 47th minute, complimenting tallies by Gaston Pereiro and Franco Acosta. The second scrimmage ultimately ended 3-0 in favor of La Celeste.
Fagundez, who had a goal and two assists against local side Colonia earlier this week, now awaits the announcement of head coach Fabian Coito's 23-man roster. Coito will make his final cuts next week ahead of the South American Youth Championship, which will take place from Jan. 14 to Feb. 7.
If Fagundez makes the final roster and plays in the tournament, he'll be officially tied to Uruguay since he's not currently a US citizen. Although he has his green card, Fagundez is still a while away from becoming a US citizen, and thus from being eligible for the US National Team.
