The move to Argentina hasn’t exactly been smooth for Jerry Bengtson, but the Honduran will hope that Saturday’s goal, his first since joining Belgrano on July 25, is a harbinger of things to come.
Bengtson entered the game in the 77th minute with Belgrano already holding a 2-0 lead over Defensa y Justicia. When the opposing goalkeeper allowed a rebound in the 87th minute, Bengtson was there to put the ball into the back of the net. It was the striker’s first goal since he scored in the New England Revolution’s 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on April 12.
Bengtson, who recently shared his ambitions to play in Europe, has only amassed 242 minutes over eight games since arriving in Argentina. The striker was recently omitted from the Honduras national team’s roster.
Bengtson is on a year-long loan though June 30, 2015. He still has multiple years remaining on his contract with the Revolution.
