When Jermaine Jones and the Revolution head to Stade Saputo on Saturday, they'll kick off with a simple goal in mind: to earn a result against last-placed Montreal. If they do, they'll book a ticket to the MLS Cup Playoffs for the second consecutive season, capping an impressive fall campaign. But what if they lose?
With a little bit of help, the Revolution can still clinch a playoff berth with a loss in Montreal. Below, we take a look at the Revolution's remaining schedule--and list a pair of postseason scenarios for the navy and red.
Remaining Schedule:
Revolution vs. Montreal Impact
October 11, 4:00PM ET @ Stade Saputo
Season Series: Even, 1-1
The Impact have struggled without skilled dribbler Ingacio Piatti, who missed last week's match against Chicago with a knee injury. His absence has left room for Justin Maap to ignite the attack out of the middle, though the six-win club appears to be focused on 2015. The Revs must take advantage.
Revolution vs. Houston Dynamo
October 16, 8:00PM ET @ BBVA Compass Stadium
Season Series: Even, 1-1
The Dynamo have looked surprisingly stingy since adding Luis Garrido in July, and will sorely miss the midfielder this weekend during a crucial matchup with D.C. United. When he returns, the Dynamo will host the Revolution, where the club dropped its season opener 4-0. A win against Montreal should set the stage for a healthy draw in Houston.
Revolution vs. Toronto FC
October 25, 7:30PM ET @ Gillette Stadium
Season Series: Revolution lead, 2-0
Even with a one-man advantage, Toronto failed to steal a point--or three--from a driven Houston team on Wednesday. The result: a club in dire need of points who will likely visit Foxboro with their season on the line. The Revs must buckle down and approach this match conservatively, looking to maintain their top-two rank in the East.
Playoff Scenarios:
The Revolution will clinch a playoff berth this weekend with:
A WIN or DRAW Montreal on Saturday
OR
LOSS to Montreal
AND
Toronto DRAWS New York on Saturday
Will the Revolution enter the MLS Cup Playoffs the easy way--by earning a result against the Impact--or will they need outside help? Will they clinch at all? let us know below.
