MLS Mock Draft: Revolution Select Victor Chavez With 31st Pick

The UCLA forward scored 19 goals in his UCLA career but still has some impressive upside potential.

The second round of the draft is almost impossible to predict, with teams taking projects, filling minor holes, or grabbing players that were deemed too high-risk for earlier spots in the draft. Most clubs will simply go for the best players available, and the Revs will likely be no exception. However, this is also a good time to grab a diamond-in-the-rough striker who can learn and develop in the system, and Victor Chavez could fit that bill.

What New England will be looking for in the draft: By this point? Who knows. However, if they've followed the mold we've already laid out, it's not out of the realm of possibility to see them grab somebody who can play up front, if for no other reason than to foster competition.

Who the experts say the Revs will pick: Top Drawer Soccer has the Revs grabbing a defender/midfielder project who can play left back (Robbie Derschang), while SBI is clearly thinking what we're thinking, but believes Reinaldo Brenes will be available. Honestly, neither is a bad pick.

Why I'm invariably wrong: When's the last time YOU correctly predicted a second-round MLS SuperDraft pick before the draft started?

Why I'm smarter than the pundits: Much like how I felt with the 19th pick, I'm probably not smarter than the pundits here. However, I will say this: the second round is going to be heavily dependent upon who has already been picked, and if Victor Chavez is available, the Revs can do far, far worse than a guy coming out of a pro-player factory like UCLA.
