Ahead of a three-match tour through Texas, Florida and Georgia, U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Tom Sermanni announced his roster of 24 players, including Boston midfielders Kristie Mewis and Heather O’Reilly. The pair will join Crystal Dunn and Julie Johnston, the first and third pick in the 2014 NWSL draft, respectively, for the late winter series.
The U.S. Women will open play on Jan. 31 against Team Canada in Frisco, Texas, a match hosted at Toyota Stadium, home of FC Dallas of Major League Soccer. On Feb. 8, the team will face Russia at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla., before finishing the road trip on Feb. 12. In the team’s final match, O’Reilly, Mewis and co. will travel to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga., to host Team Russia a second time.
Mewis, who has become a USWNT mainstay, earned a selection beside her sister Samantha, a rising UCLA senior and standout midfielder. Now representing the senior squad, the pair featured together during the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
After capping a 13-0-3 campaign in 2013, the U.S. Women will look to remain unbeaten, using 22 rostered NWSL players to jumpstart the 2014 season.
