The San Jose Earthquakes will be coming into Foxboro tonight after having lost mid-week to the Chicago Fire, stunned by a late Chris Rolfe goal to ultimately deny their typical Goonie-magic.
The Quakes will be missing some key pieces in their lineup for tonight's match, most notably 2012 MVP Chris Wondolowski who is on international duty with the United States Men's National Team for the Gold Cup. They'll also be without the services of defenders Marvin Chavez (also international duty) and Victor Bernardez (suspension). However, they still boast a lethal striking corps of Steven Lenhart, Alan Gordon, and Adam Jahn, all of whom are more than capable of bossing around an opposing backline. Jose Goncalves and his defense will have their work cut out for them tonight, whichever way you slice it.
For the Revs, they'll be missing Juan Agudelo who is out for an unknown amount of time with a knee injury. So, they will have to look to the likes of Dimitry Imbongo, Jerry Bengtson, and Chad Barrett. Barrett presents arguably the biggest storyline coming into this match, having scored the late equalizing goal last weekend against Chivas USA and effectively making his case for a start in Agudelo's absence. Who Jay Heaps decides to trot out, however, is still yet to be seen.
The Revs will need to find their fluid attacking form again for this match-up, as well as return to their usually stingy defensive selves if they want a win. A win will ensure that they stay firmly in the playoff hunt, but a loss or a tie would prove to be costly at this stage in the season, especially considering how tight the Eastern Conference has been all season.
