Revolution 2-0 Columbus - Player Ratings and Man of the Match

Jose Goncalves was the hero in stoppage time on Saturday, but Lee Nguyen had both assists coming off the bench. Who was the man of the match? Corey, Abram and Jake submitted their player ratings for the week.

USA TODAY Sports

Bobby Shuttleworth - Average Rating 6.5 (Corey 6.5, Abram, 6.5, Jake 6.5)

Corey: Back to his shut-out ways. This was a good, commanding performance from Bobby. Abram: Tested a few times, stood up well. Jake: Didn't have a lot of shot stopping to do, but commanded his area well.

Darrius Barnes - Average Rating 5.33 (Corey 5.5, Abram 5, Jake 5.5)

Corey: Did well to get into the attack but didn't overly impress me on defense nor overall for that matter. Abram: Didn't exactly get in on the attack, but did do well defending, allowed Tierney to be used in midfield so there's that. Jake: Decent defensively, not much in distribution or on offense. 5/11 on Throw-Ins is an odd tidbit.

Jose Goncalves - Average Rating 7.83 (Corey 7, Abram 8, Jake 8.5)

Corey: Made up for his mulligan on Wednesday with a kickass performance and hell of a goal. Abram: Probably should have had at least one yellow, but him scoring the game winner, and helping keep a clean sheet more than makes up for Wednesday's disastrous performance. Jake: Found the right net this week, seems to have a short memory for that rare horrendous game.

A.J. Soares - Average Rating 5.33 (Corey 6, Abram 4, Jake 6)

Corey: Pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. I like his spunk, but it's clearly been a while for A.J. Abram: Hopefully he gets better. Too many long balls out of the back. That said, he was equally responsible for JoGo's game winner. Jake: Still working out some rust, needs to do better with distribution going forward.

Andrew Farrell - Average Rating 5.83 (Corey 7, Abram 5.5, Jake 5)

Corey: Thought he had a great game. Excellent on the attack. Abram: High expectations for the youngster. Jake: Getting better going forward, but making too many sloppy tackles, could've saw red in the second half.

Chris Tierney - Average Rating 6 (Corey 7, Abram 5, Jake 6)

Corey: I really liked him at LM and have been calling for it for a while. Tough miss on a wide open goal, but it happens. It's not like our DP striker is scoring sitters like that (or anything at all). Abram: Got to put away open goal sitters. Jake: One of the few Revs who consistently generated service into the box, liked the idea of moving him forward.

Scott Caldwell - Average Rating 5.83 (Corey 5.5, Abram 6, Jake 6)

Corey: Got beat down a lot and it wasn't his best outing. That said, I think he showed well overall, good work on defense. Abram: So where do we play Caldwell from here on out? Jake: Still hardly misses a pass, still a solid two-way player, needed to be a little more assertive in the attack.

Clyde Simms - Average Rating 4.5 (Corey 4.5, Abram 5, Jake 4)

Corey: He was playing? Abram: Calm, as always, helped stop several Columbus attacks, but the team looked way better going forward when he was taken off. Jake: He just doesn't do much when he's on the field, gets out-shined by the rest of the midfield.

Kelyn Rowe - Average Rating 5 (Corey 6, Abram 4, Jake 5)

Corey: Much preferred in the CAM spot. Did really well but could have found a way to be more active on the attack. In time, I think it'll come. Abram: Not sure what happened, at times I even forgot he was out there - in a bad way. Jake: Didn't get the ball enough but when he did, the attack usually stalled out.

Chad Barrett - Average Rating 5.83 (Corey 6, Abram 5.5, Jake 6)

Corey: Very active both offensively and defensively. I'm a fan of Chad out wide. Abram: Surprisingly happy with him on the flank, but prefer him as a forward. Jake: He can run for days, great box to box game for him all around.

Dimitry Imbongo - Average Rating 4.83 (Corey 5.5, Abram 4.5, Jake 4.5)

Corey: Was decent and had some good hold-up work, but got a little too selfish with his decisions. Still WAY better than Jerry Whatshisface. Abram: Took some good touches, but also took too many touches as opposed to either passing or shooting. Jake: Didn't do enough on the hold-up play, looks to shoot too much. Still a great physical presence.

Lee Nguyen (sub) - Average Rating 7 (Corey 7, Abram 7, Jake 7)

Corey: Instant impact on the game. Revs needed him. Abram: Two assists in a short amount of time. The guy still hasn't shown me what made me love him last year, but he's getting better. Jake: Immediately injected life into the game, a perfect corner to JoGo and a perfect pass that Diego ran onto. 2 assists in 4 minutes is a good stretch.

Diego Fagundez (sub) - Average Rating 5.33 (Corey 6, Abram 5, Jake 6)

Corey: Decent but was pretty quiet till the end. Abram: Sure he had a goal, but was muscled off the ball easily. Nice to see him adjusting to teams adjusting to him. Jake: Quiet until the goal, but this kid is one cool finisher.

Juan Toja (sub) - Average Rating 5 (Corey 5, Abram 5, Jake N/A)

Corey: This dude needs a new team. Abram: Not sure what to rank. You know my feelings on him. I'll give him an average even though I think he's far below. Jake: Needs more time to make an impact.
