Revolution at Columbus 2013: Lineups and Open Thread

The Revs are on a two game losing streak and losing sight of 5th place and the playoffs in the East. Can they rebound at Crew Stadium?

USA TODAY Sports

With the Revolution's playoff hopes fading, Jay Heads has once again changed the lineup in hopes of generating some more consistent offense.

Revs Lineup (4-1-4-1): Bobby Shuttleworth; Darius Barnes, Jose Goncalves [C], AJ Soares, Andrew Farrell; Scott Caldwell; Chris Tierney, Kelyn Rowe, Clyde Simms, Chad Barrett; Dimitry Imbongo.

Revs Bench: Matt Reis, Kevin Alston, Jerry Bengston, Diego Fagundez, Ryan Guy, Lee Nguyen, Juan Toja

Crew Lineup: Gruenebaum; Williams, Marshall, O'Rourke, Barson; Warzycha, Trapp, Higuaín [C], Anor; Oduro, Schoenfeld.

Crew Bench: Lampson, Viana, Sánchez, Speas, Finlay, Finley, Meram.

It is interesting to see Chad Barrett lined up at the right midfield spot and two holding midfielders in Caldwell and Simms. Yes, Nguyen hasn't been consistent this year and Diego has had a rough couple of games but I don't see how these changes are going to spark the Revs attack. Barrett has been a workhorse up front, so perhaps his energy and more direct style will give the Revs width in the attack, something that has been lacking in the Revs recent slump

Certainly moving Tierney up into the midfield is something that wasn't unexpected, especially with the return of Alston into the game day lineup. AJ Soares replaced Stephen McCarthy after his injury at Colorado and he is the obvious choice at centerback.

Is this the beginning of another summer swoon for New England? Kickoff is at 730 PM so feel free to discuss the lineups and the game action below
