Revs vs. Red Bulls Halftime Update: 3 Goals, Soares Injured

Not a pretty first half for the Revs, but hope is not lost just yet. New England is still in this game.

Despite the recent string of games for the Revs, this one is not without excitement. The Revolution are currently a goal down to the Red Bulls, the scoreline at 2-1.

New York scored within 4 minutes by way of Dax McCarty. New York's corner kick was met with little resistance or man-marking form the boys in blue leaving McCarty with plenty of space to clean-up the rebound at the top of the box to put away the opening goal.

The Revs answered back almost immediately in the 6th minute when a Lee Nguyen free kick was met by A.J. Soares who looked to have scored the goal but it turns out that Brandon Barklage deflected it into the net for an own goal.

Just when it felt like the Revs were back in it, the Red Bulls answered back in the 9th minute when Fabian Espindola was set loose without anyone marking him and beat both Jose Goncalves and A.J. Soares for New York's second goal in the 9th minute.

To add New England's woes, Soares was eventually subbed off in the 18th minute after he appeared to have pulled his hamstring when defending against an ensuing Thierry Henry. Stephen McCarthy has since entered the game in his place, providing Macca with his first minutes of the 2013 season.

The Revs look determined to be more involved in the attack, with Lee Nguyen and Kelyn Rowe showing well on the flanks and generating some chances in the final third, but New England's forwards, Diego Fagundez and Jerry Bengtson, are largely squandering said opportunities. Bengtson, in particular, was sent through with a wide open chance on goal in the 31st minute, but took too many touches to get around Robles and ended up floating a cross into the abyss on the other side of the New York net.

New York almost notched another goal in the 44th minute from a corner kick, but Bobby Shuttleworth's quick reactions denied another and the Revs were able to enter halftime down by only a goal. 45 minutes left and the Revs are surely in for a talking-to in the locker room.
