Revolution 0 - 1 Union: Player Ratings and Man of the Match

The Revolution lost at PPL Park to the Union yet again, and for the third time running, it was Jack McInerney providing the late heartbreak. Here are our player ratings. Corey and Abram were our only contributors this week, as Steve, Matty and Brendan were unable to rate.

USA TODAY Sports

Bobby Shuttleworth: Average Rating - 5.25 (Corey 5.5, Abram 5)

Corey: I actually thought Bobby had a decent game, and I don't blame him for the goal, what with the weather and all. If anything, I'd like to see him work on keeping a cool head. I feel like he was really showing his frustration and that doesn't translate well to you backline in the heat of a game...Abram: Rarely tested, did well when he was. Not much he could have done on the game-winning-goal.

Kevin Alston: Average Rating - 4.25 (Corey 4.5, Abram 4)

Corey: Hardly involved in the attack and seemed to abandon his defensive duties way too much. In fact, a number of times I thought that Goncalves was playing LB. Alston also seemed to sort of lose steam in the last 15 minutes or so; Sheanon Williams had all the time in the world on a handful of occasions to send in service...Abram: Poor in possession.

Jose Goncalves: Average Rating - 5.75 (Corey 6, Abram 5.5)

Corey: Very nice game and picked up a lot of slack. He is an asset...Abram: Showed toughness and a quickness that I was unaware he possessed.

A.J. Soares: Average Rating - 5.25 (Corey 6, Abram 4.5)

Corey: Another solid outing. Played things a little more safe than usual or than one would like, but I blame the weather for that. Nice to see him with the captain's armband at least for a half...Abram: A lot of long clearances that should have been played short.

Andrew Farrell: Average Rating - 5.25 (Corey 6, Abram 4.5)

Corey: Not the same sparkling performance, but still very good. Showed a glimpse of his ability to cross into the box towards the end. Need to see more of that...Abram: Seemed a bit invisible at times. Not as strong as his debut.

Clyde Simms: Average Rating - 3.5 (Corey 4.5, Abram 2.5)

Corey: Disappointing...Abram: Perhaps his worst performance as a Rev.

Scott Caldwell: Average Rating - 5.25 (Corey 5.5, Abram 5)

Corey: Above average, but I think lying deep in the midfield isn't his ideal positioning. Would have preferred to see him more advanced...Abram: So smooth on the ball, that several times I forgot he was there. Did not look like a rookie.

Lee Nguyen: Average Rating - 5.5 (Corey 6, Abram 5)

Corey: Dynamic. A catalyst for basically all of our chances. He is providing the service, we just need to start getting on the end of it. Takes a point deduction on the goal, however. It looked to me (on replay) that he abandoned Bobby's back-post while the ball was still in the box, and that's exactly where McInerney headed it...Abram: Not as bad as some may imagine, created a good chance for Jerry, great interplay with Toja.

Juan Toja: Average Rating - 5.75 (Corey 6, Abram 5.5)

Corey: So dangerous. This guy is legit and I think Jay is utilizing him well positionally. Also, he was all over the pitch. Works really hard. That said, maybe he should have been subbed off earlier...Abram: Nice movement, though the 2 on 1 with him Bengtson and the keeper should have ended with a better shot or a stronger pass.

Kelyn Rowe: Average Rating - 4.5 (Corey 5, Abram 4)

Corey: Making his case to be first off the bench rather than in the starting XI. He was involved at times, but at other times couldn't find his way into the game. Did well tracking back on defense though...Abram: Not sure what happened to the Rowe of last week. A few good passing sequences, but would have expected him to test MacMath from outside.

Jerry Bengtson: Average Rating - 6 (Corey 5.5, Abram 6.5)

Corey: Made a couple dangerous runs, but needs to make more. His chance on goal in the first half should have been a goal, no question. We're paying him DP money to put away that easy shit...Abram: I'm probably going to get killed for this, but made some good chances out of nothing. Will get better.

Andy Dorman (sub): Average Rating - 5.25 (Corey 6, Abram 4.5)

Corey: Nice outing from Andy. Would have liked to see him start instead of Caldwell, especially if Heaps was going to play them in a CDM position...Abram: Like Caldwell there were times when I forgot he was out there.

Chris Tierney (sub): Average Rating - 5 (Corey 5, Abram 5)

Corey: CT gets a mulligan for me. I know what Jay was trying to do, and I like the idea. But I don't know if Tierney is fully match-fit yet, so that might have accounted for his poor outing...Abram: Team looked more dangerous with him playing out wide.

Chad Barrett (sub): Average Rating 5 - (Corey 5, Abram 5)

Corey: I like what I saw and I want to see more...Abram: Good hold up, Bengtson looked much more comfortable when Barrett came on.
